The definition of peace now includes the promotion of environments that avoid conflicts over land and natural resources. Al Gore and the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) will share the prize jointly. Al ore is going to donate his $1.5 million winnings to helping to counteract global warming.
CNN International did a great piece today on it, and was fair enough to refute the falsehoods of this one conservative commentator who tried to pass off the old lie that there isn’t a consensus on global warming. Good for CNN International. The regular CNN often lets guest commentators use it as a bully pulpit to spew biased propaganda, and I’m glad that the company at least knows that the global community doesn’t appreciate a program that lets anyone come on and say anything without substantiation.
Today is such a great day.

Not very. Still, any scent of defeat for the Republicans, be it a whiff of stale roadkill or the rank, vile stench of rotting flesh ‘morality’ has them back at the drawing board. This time, their plan is downright ugly: usurping electoral votes through a referendum that is likely to pass unless we educate the citizens of California.
Several conservative lawyers and lawmakers in the Sunshine State have introduced the so-called “Presidential Election Reform Act,” which would give electoral votes to whatever candidate wins an individual county. That would rob California’s Democratic power of about 20 electoral votes and probably cost the Democratic candidate the presidential election.
The citizens of California don’t seem to understand the law because the conservatives haven’t bothered to explain it to them, probably because doing so would mean its demise at the polls. (Well, duh!)
I’m all for overhauling the Constitution and throwing out the Electoral College. A national vote is the fairest way to decide the president. But piecemeal manipulation of a system that is only convenient when it works for one party is deplorable.
Please spread the word about this nefarious state proposal.

Normally I don’t just link to interesting articles without saying something of substance about them, but this is Nicholas Kristof, and the title says it all, really.

There is one person in American politics who almost no one slanders without severe repercussions, and he was assassinated over 35 years ago. Martin Luther King, Jr. didn’t have the opportunity or the motivation to talk about gay marriage, but his family does now, and thus they are a house divided.
Coretta Scott King, his widow, supports the full and equal rights of the BGTL community.
One of her sons supports her in opposing a Constitutional ban on gay marriage, but has not gone so far as to say that he supports full and equal rights for all.
Her daughter has marched in support of a ban on same-sex marriage.
Does anyone else see the hypocrisy in defending one group of people previously chained by supposed Biblical support for slavery (which has now been debunked) and hating another group of people based on the same premises?
Hate and bigotry will never convince people to accept Christ as their savior. It will, however, serve to further alienate them from those who try to do good in His name.
