Larry Craig can’t seem to make up his mind about much of anything these days.

First, he didn’t solicit sex from a police officer. Then, he may have given the wrong impression and merely wanted to plead guilty and sweep the whole dirty affair under the rug. Then, it was in his best interest to shout “I AM NOT GAY!!!” from the rooftops with a 300-lb. bullhorn. A bit later, Craig decided, “I’m sick of this crap. I’ll just quit now while I’m behind. Now, he’s saying he’s not sure, that he wants to fight the accusation made against him but he had planned to not seek re-election BEFORE the scandal broke but he may not quit unless the Ethics Committe finds him guilty of wrongdoing and oh, by the way, his spokesperson says, “There will probably be a new Senator from Idaho come October.”

Guh?

I’m not going to even TRY to tackle this one. Read CNN’s story on the latest about the Larry Craig sex scandal instead, and then blame them for confusing you, not me.

By the way, I think I agree with Arlen Specter on one thing: airport police have far better things that they SHOULD be doing with their time other than waiting for gay men to nudge their boots in restroom stalls.

Never mind that the purpose of school is to educate, not indoctrinate. Never mind that it is illegal to endorse a religion in a public classom. A punch of bigots concerned citizens in New York City are protesting what they call a “Madrassa” : a public school that teaches required courses in Arabic language and culture.

Keep in mind that their are 70 other multilingual/cultural PUBLIC schools in New York city alone, and NONE of them have fallen under criticism this ridiculous. There are blos popping up claiming that CNN has slanted the story in favor of the school, etc., blah, blah, all of the usual right-wing lies and distortions. The former principal had to resign because she defended the word intifada on a T-shirt. NOTE: I said the WORD ‘intifada,’ not what some extremists have twisted it to mean.

Arabic School Controversy

The issue came up at a meeting in Vienna for the European Society of Cardiology. Shocker, that. The Discovery web site has an article about it here.

What is shocking is that this wasn’t news during the massive heat wave of 2003, when 35,000 people died in Europe, many of them the sick, the elderly, or others with undiagnosed health problems. That number was well above the normal expected deaths from heatstroke and cardiovascular failure from heat exhaustion.

Once the North Pole reaches that tipping point - when the amount of dark warmer water is heating up the ice so much that there is no way to reverse the melting trend - it will cause a chain reaction of events that will result in all of the other nasty effects that scientists have warned the public about for years…with one notable exception.

It’s going to be a long, long, long, hot summer.

Just something to think about.

The Mexican President demanded that the United States stop its enforcement of its immigration laws because they are ‘hurting Mexican citizens.’ Even though Calderon’s stance on illegal immigration appears to be a ploy to unite the opposition party in his country with his supporters, the message is arrogant and imperialistic at best.

Please Mr. Calderon, just because some of our government leaders are self-centered, ignorant nitwits doesn’t mean that you should follow their example and act as if your country is the only country that matters in the world. Our nations have sovereign borders. For better or worse, they have stayed the same for over a century now. Mexico lost the Mexican-American War in a decisve military victory, and despite not ratifying the treaty that Santa Anna signed, Mexico did not challenge the concessions made in that treaty through force.

I don’t like the fact that our immigration laws seem to punish the working poor instead of the corporations that exploit them, but our economy is suffering from the disappearance of middle-class jobs. Pay people a living wage with benefits, and Americans will do the dirty work.
